BPasterns are short, thick and strong, but still flexible, showing a slight angle when viewed from the side. Correct pasterns should be vertical and this puts the bads directly beneath the shoulder blade. Dogs with forearms that are too long are 'down in the pastern' to make the pads go under the shoulder blade. It may also indicate weak muscles.
