The Aussie: Possessing Unusual Agility

The Australian shepherd has fast become one of the premier breeds in agility competition at its jump height (agility classes are divided by type and jump height - little dogs shouldn't have to jump as high as big ones). Why? The drive, the focus, the trainability, and their remarkable agility and speed makes them a natural at the sport.

If you've ever gotten a thrill from watching your dog jump a barrier or climb a rock, this might be the sport for you. Dogs and handlers are pitted against an obstacle course in which they must make it through as cleanly and quickly as possible. It takes a lot of consistent training, handling practice for the human counterpart, and a solid relationship between you and your dog to be successful. But who doesn't want that?
